DRC, Sri Lanka, Darfur, Pakistan, Somalia, Iraq, Chad, Gaza: What exactly is the role of humanitarian organizations in conflict situations? What are the constraints they face today? Is there a tension between humanitarian action and international criminal justice?
This brown bag lunch will explore the current limits and challenges facing Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in its humanitarian action, with a focus on the group's interaction with international humanitarian law, human rights, and international criminal tribunals, notably the ICC.
Fabien Dubuet was appointed the Médecins Sans Frontières United Nations Representative in New York in August 2005. Mr. Dubuet joined Médecins Sans Frontières in 1995 and has since worked or led missions in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, East-Timor, Haiti, Iran, Kosovo, Russia, Rwanda, and Uganda.
